As I have mentioned before, I have been doing some thinking about what I want for a project car. Since I don’t have the car yet, I have been going through the fun exercise of thinking about it. My thought is to swap a 5.7 Hemi into a 1960’s or 1970’s Mopar.
I haven’t figured out for sure what I would want for a car. I know my ideal would be a 1968 or 1969 Charger, but those are rather expensive. Other than that, I am thinking I like the Dusters and Darts, as well as the 1966 and 1967 Dodge B bodies (the Coronets and Chargers). But I think it would be a case of seeing something at a car show, and going, that is what I want.
I do know that since I will be heavily modifying the car, I am not to worried about it being a performance version to begin with. In fact, if it wasn’t for the fact that body and interior parts are harder to come by, I would be ok with it being a four door even. After all, they are usually less expensive to buy. A wagon would be cool though.
It just needs to have a manual transmission, preferably a 4 speed to start with. I am not sure how easy and inexpensive it would be to swap to a manual on one that came with an automatic in the first place.
Depending on what it had for an engine, I may run it for a while before doing the swap, or it may be I find a car with a bad engine, and the swap is one of the first things I do. That is part of the fun of this, I don’t know what order or how it will all go, but I can have a definite plan of how I want my 5.7 Hemi car to be when I am done before I start.
