How to be an automotive enthusiast

I have written recently on how manual transmissions are on the way out.  I know it is because most people just view a car as a way to get from point A to point B, even if they pick a sporty car.  If that wasn’t how many people viewed cars, think how many Honda Accords, Toyota Camrys etc would be sold.  My point here is how to be an automotive enthusiast.

I think there is one thing that all automotive enthusiasts have in common, no matter what kind of cars they like.  It is that they love driving cars.  You can appreciate all manner of cars, but to truly love them, you need to get enjoyment out of driving them, not just like looking at them.

That doesn’t mean you need to know how every little thing on them works, although I think that is fun.  You can just buy what ever car you want and enjoy driving it.  It doesn’t have to be a muscle car, or a sports car or anything special at all.

I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, and I enjoy driving it.  The fact that it handles really well for a minivan, better than most cars I have driven, helps a lot with that.  You can say what you want about VW selling a rebadged Dodge/Chrysler minivan, but VW’s help with the suspension tuning has helped make a fun to drive minivan.

While I love manual transmissions, I don’t think that driving a manual is a prerequisite for how to be an automotive enthusiast.  As long as you enjoy driving an automatic, you still qualify.

So think about it, if you enjoy getting in your car, or truck, or what ever, to go someplace, you are an enthusiast.
