Podcast Episode 12 – Aluminum Vs Cast Iron

Today, I gt more into the technical stuff on cars.  In this case, aluminum vs cast iron for engine parts.

I look at intake manifolds first, since they are simplest.

From there, I go on to cylinder heads.  With aluminum cylinder heads, due to the fact that aluminum transfers heat better, it will reduce cylinder pressure.  I explain this with the ideal gas law of pv=nrt and how it means aluminum heads will make less power, all else being equal.

From there, I go on to aluminum vs cast iron for the engine blocks.  And different ways to handle the wear from the pistons going up and down, from the ill fated Vega, to modern options.

For the history segment, I talk about the 1969 ZL1 Camaro
